Trademark

A trademark is any visually perceptible distinctive sign whose purpose is to distinguish products and services, attest to the conformity of a product or service with certain standards or technical specifications, or to identify products or services from members of a certain entity. A registered trademark entitles its holder to exclusive use throughout the national territory in its field of economic activity. The owner of the trademark or the applicant is also entitled to assign their registration or application for registration; license its use and ensure its material integrity or reputation.

LENGTH OF PROTECTION
The trademark registration will be valid for a period of ten years, from the date of grant of the registration, renewable for equal and successive periods. The extension request must be made during the last year of validity of the registration, accompanied by proof of payment of the respective fee. 

TERRITORY OF PROTECTION 
The brand ownership is acquired by validly issued registration, in accordance with the provisions of Industrial Property Law No. 9279/96, the holder being assured its exclusive use across the national territory or in the country where the registration was made.
